Software appliances reduce unnecessary friction, but for us that means more than just streamlining deployment for an ISV or reducing costs in the IT department. We believe there is a great deal of untapped potential in the opensource world. The largest Linux distributions have over 20,000 packages in their repositories, but it still takes considerable skill and effort to cherry pick the right components and glue them together into a compelling solution that is more than the sum of its parts. Capturing the value of these integrated solutions in well engineered, thoroughly tested opensource software appliances will drive Linux adoption rates ever higher and empower experts and non-experts alike to do more.
With minor exceptions, software appliances are built from unmodified Ubuntu binaries straight from Ubuntu's package repositories. LAMP stack - Opensource web platformLAMP is a popular opensource web platform commonly used to run dynamic web sites and servers. It includes Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (usually) and is considered by many the platform of choice for development and deployment of high performance web applications which require a solid and reliable foundation. LAPP stack - Opensource web platformThe LAPP stack is an opensource web platform that can be used to run dynamic web sites and servers. It is considered by many to be a powerful alternative to the more popular LAMP stack and includes Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL (instead of MySQL) and PHP. These advanced and mature components provide a rock solid foundation for the development and deployment of high performance web applications. Joomla 1.5.8 - Cutting Edge Content ManagementJoomla! is an award-winning Content Management System (CMS) that will help you build websites and other powerful online applications. Best of all, Joomla! is an open source solution that is freely available to everybody. Drupal 6.6 - Content Management FrameworkDrupal is an open source content management platform licensed under the GPL. Equipped with a powerful blend of features, Drupal can support a variety of websites ranging from personal blogs, corporate brochures and large community-driven websites. MediaWiki 1.13.2 - Wiki engineMediaWiki is a powerful wiki engine that was originally developed to serve the needs of Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia. Today, MediaWiki is used publically by many of the largest and most popular wikis online, while privately it is being increasingly deployed inside company Intranets as a knowledge and content management system. Django 1.0.2 stack - High-level python web frameworkDjango is a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design. Python's equivalent to the famous Ruby on rails, Django lets you build high-performing, elegant Web applications quickly. Django focuses on automating as much as possible and adhering to the "Don't Repeat Yourself" (DRY) principle. Rails 2.2.2 stack - Ruby on Rails web frameworkRuby on Rails is an open-source web framework that's optimized for programmer happiness and sustainable productivity. Written in Ruby, Rails lets you write beautiful code by favoring convention over configuration. The result is a web framework that allows you to transition from idea to implementation in a very short period of time. MySQL 5.0.51 - Relational database management systemMySQL is a relational database management system (RDBMS) which has more than 11 million installations, and is owned by Sun Microsystems. MySQL is a fast, stable, robust, easy to use, and true multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. A relational database stores data in separate tables rather than putting all the data in one big storeroom. This adds speed and flexibility. |
